The idea of being coming a grown up is the fantasy of many kids out there; think of how many things you could do if you were an adult. The idea of being an adult on paper may sound like a pretty good deal; if it weren’t for all the responsibility that goes along with it. Josh Baskin ( played by Tom Hanks) had his wish of being all grown up come true.
The plot follows Baskin; a twelve-year-old boy who is tired of being too short to ride on a ride at the local fair. Upon finding a fortune telling machine at the same carnival he decides to make a wish that he is big. The fortune teller informs him that his wish is granted. When he wakes up the next day he is 30 years old and has mysteriously turned into Tom Hanks.Of course, nobody believes Josh is who he says he is, except for his best friend Billy; who helps him navigate life as an adult. Knowing that he can’t get by without money he gets a job working as a data entry clerk at MacMillan Toy Company. Upon meeting the boss of the company at a toy store while playing Heart and Soul and Chopsticks on a giant keyboard; Josh gets a big promotion in the company.
Now with a great job of testing out toys he can afford to outfit his apartment with all the things a kid would love. Along the way, he catches the eyes of Susan Lawrence a co-worker who is interested in becoming his girlfriend. Through all this Billy reminds his friend exactly who he is and he should continue his quest to become young again.
